double action valve that gives a dispersion
index of less than five per cent. Small
test samples can be prepared under different

the homogenisation process.

This system is available

Continuous Ice Cream
Freezer - FT25BA
A self-contained unit designed
for producing and experimenting with ice-cream
mixes and frozen desserts, it is a replica
of the industrial process in miniature.
Product temperatures down to -6°C,
and overrun in excess of 200 per cent
possible with a nominal throughput of
10 litres/hour. Comprehensive instrumentation
and variable process conditions, make
this unit ideal for training, project
work or research.
Margarine and Shortening
Crystallizer - FT25BBP
The FT25BBP continuous margarine and shortening
crystallizer also handles confectionery
fillings and aerated products. It incorporates
one or two heat exchanger barrels and
a pinworker to vary the crystal structure
of the chilled product. Controllable mutator
speeds of up to 1,000rpm and the built-in
refrigeration system operates down to
-25degC. The unit is mounted on a stainless
steel waterproof cabinet which houses
all the services and the waterproof membrane
technology control panel gives control
over the process variables. Results can
be recorded to a PC and replicated on
industrial scale plant. The FT25 can also
be configured with a single heat exchanger
barrel and a pinworker (FT25BP).

The FT25BBPA has two barrels, one pinworker
plus air incorporation.
UHT System for Aseptic
Products - FT25BBB
Thermal processing of viscous food products,
simulating the industrial process, can
be demonstrated on this versatile unit.
A steam heated barrel and water cooled
barrel both have variable speed scraper
shafts and many processing conditions
can be simulated by varying the pressure,
holding time and flow rate.

Vacuum Freeze
Drier - FT33
Products can be frozen in the chamber
before drying. The unit is designed for
freeze drying biologically heat sensitive
materiaIs contained in beakers or other
vessels. It can be considered to be a
small scale replica of commercial scale
pharmaceutical and food production machines.
The Freeze Drier incorporates a built
in refrigeration system and temperature
controlled heating system. With the working
chamber and condenser chamber constructed
from stainless steel, it offers excellent
corrosion resistance and can be easily
sterilised.

Multi-purpose
Processing Vessel - FT40
Batch heating, chilling and emulsifying
processes can be demonstrated on this
versatile processing vat. A built-in chart
recorder continuously records the temperature
of the vat contents and separate process
controls allow accurate preparation of
small samples of product.

Pasteuriser - FT43
A bench top unit duplicates the industrial
HTST process on a practical scale for
teaching and research. Holding times can
be varied with throughput, and temperature
is controlled from a separate comprehensive
control console. Low viscosity food samples
as small as one litre can be processed
in batches or continuously with a throughput
of 20 litres/hr.

UHT Aseptic
Unit - FT47
The direct method of heating is used
on this batch processing unit designed
to demonstrate the infusion type industrial
process. It is possible to study the effects
of the process on product quality and
nutritional value, and the degree of destruction
of micro-organisms. Variable process temperatures
and holding times allow much flexibility
in altering process conditions.

Direct
Steam Injection UHT System - FT74DI
Direct steam injection enables higher
temperatures to be reached faster and
dropped faster keeping product out of
the flavour and colour danger zone. The
FT74DI reaches up to 150°C at pressures
up to 9 bar and product can be held from
two seconds upwards. Throughput is up
to 20 litres (5 US gallons) per hour.
It can handle sauces, soups, condiments,
confectionary, dairy products, gelatine,
ice cream, pharmaceuticals and much more.

Filling System - FT83

solution for R&D departments to produce

The FT94 is designed for operation as
both a stand-alone unit and also for seamless

Armfield Limited announces the FT102X
Carbonator-Filler miniature-scale drinks
carbonator and filler for laboratory
development of carbonated beverages,
soft and alcoholic drinks where results
need to be recorded, reproduced and then
replicated on large scale plant.
The FT102X Carbonator-Filler allows
very small quantities of product (as
little as two litres) to be accurately
mixed, carbonated and bottled in glass
or PET bottles or canned. Precise control
over mixing and carbonating makes the
process quick and easy. With the clean
in place facility many formulations can
be tried in a short time.
When used with one of Armfield's miniature-scale
FT74 heat exchangers, researchers can
pasteurise or sterilise then carbonate
and can or bottle in the laboratory.

to those produced by large scale equipment.
Control and instrumentation make it supremely
flexible with operator control over pressures,
temperature and relative humidity. A fluid
bed cooler for second stage cooling of
high fat products being spray dried is
available.
A conversion kit can turn the FT80 into
the FT81 Tall Form Spray Chiller capable
of handling high fat products such as
bakery shortenings. The change can be
made in less than 30 minutes.

to a PC running Windows via an interface
device. The software is designed to run
